Atarax 25mg reduces activity in the central nervous system. It also acts as an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing and runny nose, or hives on the skin.

Description

The composition of the drug atarax 25mg is Hydroxyzine dichlorhydrate 25mg and excipients: Calcium phosphate, lactose, magnesium stearate, maize starch, silicon dioxide and sodium lauryl sulfate. Atarax 25 mg is a product of the company UCB Pharma.S.A. – Belgium.
Hydroxyzine is a competitive histamine antagonist on the H1 receptor. In addition, the drug also has CNS depressant, anticholinergic, antispasmodic and local anesthetic effects, soothing and antiemetic. Hydroxyzine may cause respiratory depression, especially in young children.

The calming and sedative effects of hydroxyzine are due to a decrease in the activity of the subcortical central nervous system, but hydroxyzine does not have a cortical inhibitory effect. The mechanism of hydroxyzine’s antiemetic and anti-motion sickness effects is unknown, but is most likely due to its central anticholinergic and CNS depressant effects.
Efficacy of long-term use of hydroxyzine for more than 4 months in the treatment of anxiety has not been established, but clinicians believe that benzodiazepines are more effective than hydroxyzine in anxiety disorders.

This medicine suppresses an active allergic substance and has a sedative effect by suppressing the central nervous system.
It is usually used to treat hives and itch associated with skin disease. It is also used to treat anxiety/tension/depression associated with neurosis.

For symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension associated with psychoneurosis and as an adjunct in organic disease states in which anxiety is manifested the adult dose of Atarax is 50-100 mg four times/day. Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride is administered orally in the form of tablets.

Atarax and Pregnancy

During pregnancy, Atarax should be used only if prescribed. It is unknown if Atarax passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding while using Atarax is not recommended.
