Oxypro 2omg is a strong acting painkiller (analgesic) and belongs to the group of opioids. It  is use to treat severe pain, which can be adequately manage only with opioid analgesics. Oxypro is good in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older.

This medicine has been prescribe for you for severe pain, which can be adequately manage only by analgesics. It contains oxycodone which belongs to a class of medicines called opioids, which are ‘pain relievers’. This medicine is prescribe to you and should not be given to anyone else.

Opioids can cause addiction and you may get withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it suddenly. Your prescriber should have explained how long you will be taking it for and when it is appropriate to stop, how to do this safely.

Some patients who take Oxypro 20mg following a fixed schedule need rapid release analgesics as rescue medication in order to control breakthrough pain. Oxypro is not good for the treatment of acute pain and/or breakthrough pain.

The single dose of the rescue medication should amount to 1/6 of the equianalgesic daily dose of Oxypro. Use of the rescue medication more than twice daily indicates that the dose of Oxypro needs to be increase. The dose should not be consume more often than once every 1-2 days until a stable twice daily administration has been achieve.

Following a dose increase from 10 mg to 20 mg swallow  every 12 hours dose adjustments should be made in steps of approximately one third of the daily dose.

Duration of treatment

Oxypro should not be consume longer than necessary. If long-term treatment is necessary due to the type and severity of the illness careful. Also regular monitoring is require to determine whether and to what extent treatment should be continue. If opioid therapy is no longer good it may be advisable to reduce the daily dose gradually in order to prevent symptoms of a withdrawal syndrome.
